COLUMBIA, S.C. – Attending their first competition in school history in their first season of existence, the LaGrange College men's and women's track and field teams opened their season at the Gamecock Opener hosted by the University of South Carolina on Friday and Saturday at Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Sophomore Antwion Carey (Rome, Ga.) ran a 6.99 in the men's 60-meter dash preliminary round on Friday, establishing a school record in that event. Carey followed that up with a time of 7.03 in the semifinals.
- Freshman A'mya Hill (Fitzgerald, Ga.) finished with a time of 8.13 in the women's 60-meter dash prelims and a 27.76 in the women's 200-meter finals, both marks establishing school records.
- Freshman Fabian Coleman (Atlanta, Ga.) qualified for the finals in the men's 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.06 in the preliminaries, 7.01 in the semis and 7.04 in the finals, good for eighth place.
- Freshman Khristian Bell (Tyrone, Ga.) had an 8.17 in the women's 60-meter prelims, a 28.92 in the women's 200-meter finals, and a distance of 4.94 meters in the women's long jump. Bell's mark in the long jump represents a school record.
- Freshman Roman Brown (Covington, Ga.) had a 36.44 in the men's 300-meter finals after posting a 7.38 in the 60-meter preliminaries.
- Freshman D'Aaron Cox (Atlanta, Ga.) threw for a school record distance of 10.22 meters in the men's shot put.
- Freshman Ryheem Mighten (Kingston, Jamaica) set two school records with a 21.73 in the men's 200-meter finals and a 34.58 in the men's 300-meters. Mighten's mark in the 300-meter dash establishes an LC record and placed him fourth out of 34 entires, as well as ranking him ninth in NCAA Division III at press-time.
- Freshman Jaylen Adams-Gibson (Rome, Ga.) finished with a time of 22.71 in the men's 200 meters
- Freshman Alan Vidrio Buen Rostro (Lawrenceville, Ga.) set two school records, coming in with a time of 1:40.42 in the men's 600 meters and 2:19.97 in the men's 800 meters.
- Freshman Cymir Zeigler (Montgomery, Ala.) had school record distances of 5.67 in the men's long jump and 13.21 in the men's triple jump. Zeigler's mark in the triple jump was a lifetime best and saw him finish eighth overall.
- In the men's 4 x 400 meter relay, the quartet of Carey, Brown, Adams-Gibson and Mighten finished with a time of 3:31.27, setting an LC record.
