Panthers set to host rivals Huntingdon College on Saturday

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team (9-6, 3-3 Collegiate Conference of the South) are back at home on Saturday (Jan. 25) to face the Huntingdon College Hawks (6-9, 2-4 CCS) in their third of five-consecutive contests at Mariotti Gym. LC is currently 1-1 during the homestand with a win on January 17th against Maryville, unfortunately losing the following afternoon against the Eagles of Asbury.

The Matchup
LaGrange will come into the matchup looking for their fourth conference win and a double-digit win total in Destiny Lane-Frazier's first season as Panther Head Coach. LC will play for the first time in seven days, with a midweek contest against Agnes Scott College being postponed to February 20th due to Winter Storm Enzo wreaking havoc across the Deep South. In LaGrange's last tilt, they lost a hard-fought battle against Asbury University. The game was back and forth, with the Panthers coming back from a double-digit deficit, only to come up short in the final minutes as they fell 62-57. LC will look to bounce back and pick up another key victory in a tight conference race on Saturday.

As for the Hawks, they have struggled in the month of January, going 2-4 in six games. Losing three of their last four outings, Huntingdon dropped back-to-back close home games to Asbury and Maryville, both by an average of less than ten points-apiece. HC has struggled recently against LC, losing seven of the last eight. This includes a 12-point Panther road win on January 4th where Zyhia Johnson led the night for the Panthers with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists in an 86-74 final. Huntingdon will look to right their January wrongs and pick up a huge road victory against LaGrange on Saturday.

Players to Watch
Kendra Roberts has stepped up as of late for the Panthers, scoring in double figures in four of the last seven games for an average of 10.5 points per game, including a solid 21 points in the last two games. Watch her on the outside, as she leads LC this season in three-point percentage, shooting 37% from outside the arc on 51 attempts.

Huntingdon will look to Briana McGruder for playmaking on all 94 feet of the hardwood against the Panthers. The Decatur, Ga native averages 10.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, along with 23 blocks and 23 steals on the season, respectively. LaGrange will look to put her on the free throw line, shooting only 52% on 48 attempts from the charity stripe.
