LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Women's Basketball Team (8-4, 2-1 Collegiate Conference of the South) hits the road to Demorest, Ga to take on the Lions of Piedmont University (7-5, 3-0 CCS) on Tuesday (Jan. 14) in a battle between two conference foes.
The Matchup
The Panthers come into this contest off a tough road loss last week to the Covenant College Scots, losing 88-86 in overtime after a heroic late-game comeback to force the extra period. LC has won the last two meeting with the Lions, besting them in their own house by 10 points last season in a 79-69 final from Demorest. Winning seven of their last nine games, the Panthers will look to return to their dominant play over the last few weeks as they take on an undefeated-in-conference Piedmont team still searching for a marquee win to add to their season record.
As for the Lions, they started the year at an even 5-5 before bringing it all together in the last two outings, picking up big wins over Huntingdon College and Asbury University. Although losing four of the last five matchups with the Panthers, Piedmont has dominated the overall series with LaGrange, at one point winning as many as 10 in a row against LC between 2017-2022. They will certainly look to take advantage of the home court advantage on Tuesday when the Panthers come into town as both squads battle for the title of "Top Cat" in the CCS.
Players to Watch
Amanda Mclendon will be a key factor for the Panthers on Tuesday as they look to set the tone offensively. The junior forward from Orlanda, Fla led the team with 22 points in their last outing against Covenant, tallying eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks in the process.
The Lions will look to Andelin Hill to generate plays against LC. The team's top point-getter, the senior forward out of Blairsville, Ga leads the team with 155 points, good for 12.9 points per game so far this season.
