LC Women's Soccer continues conference play this Thursday (Oct. 10) as the team takes on Asbury University in the first ever head-to-head matchup. Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
The Teams
Following a tough 3-0 Saturday night road loss to Belhaven University (Oct. 5), the Panthers bounced back with a crushing 12-0 win over Tougaloo College (Oct. 6), finishing the Mississippi trip 1-1. This brought the season record to 4-5-3 (1-2 CCS). In the shutout win, Junior forward
Kaia King broke her rookie season goal record (7) after she knocked in her eighth and ninth of the year. Through nine games, sophomore goalkeeper
Anna Wright posts a 2-4-3 record and a career-best .797 save percentage.
The Eagles currently hold a 4-4-3 (1-1 CCS) record after they fell 1-0 to Covenant College (Oct. 5). In 11 games, the team averages 16.7 shots per contest while limiting opponents to just 7.6. Junior midfielder Hannah Muncie leads AU with 12 points off of six goals. Senior Maliya Crump spent the majority of the time protecting the net for the Eagles. In eight games, she carries a 2-3-1 record and a .619 save percentage. More recently, senior Violette Moore has taken on the role of AU keeper. Starting in the last three games, Moore posts a 1-1-1 record and a .750 save percentage.
Players to Watch
Both the midfielders and forwards are the Panthers to pay attention to this week. Looking at the game statistics, AU tends to hold the ball in order to prevent their opponents from creating any scoring chances. If the Panthers can pressure the Eagles into forcing bad passes when setting up on their side of the field, it will hopefully create LC scoring opportunities.
Where to Watch
Kickoff at Panthers Field is set for 4 p.m. this Thursday (Oct. 10).
