The LaGrange College Women's Soccer Team (5-7-3, 2-4-0 Collegiate Conference of the South) hits the road this week to take on Piedmont University (6-4-4, 4-1-1 CCS) in Demorest, Ga on Wednesday (Oct. 23) with a chance to secure their spot in the CCS Championship Tournament.
The Matchup
The Panthers are coming off a huge win this past week against the Hawks of Huntingdon College in a game that saw the team overcome a two-goal deficit late in the contest to earn a critical 5-2 victory. They have the opportunity Wednesday to clinch a berth in the CCS Championship Tournament with either a win or draw against a Lions team that they have yet to earn a result over in 20 meetings dating back to 2008.
As for Piedmont, they have had a very productive season in conference, falling only once by a single goal to Asbury University on Oct. 17. Their season has not been without adversity, however, going 1-2-1 over the past four games and being outscored 13-4 in that span. They will look to notch one back in the win column this week at home as they take on a physical Panthers squad.Â
Players to Watch
CCS Player of the Week,
Kaia King, registered two goals and an assist in the Panthers' last match against Huntingdon, a game in which she proved to be the hero as her team trailed 2-0 late in the match. The junior forward will certainly be a key piece in LC's offensive efforts against the Lions on Wednesday.
Paige Kluba is PU's top playmaker in the attacking third, with five goals and two assists this season off 17 shots on goal. The Cumming, Ga native was held off the scoresheet in her team's last match against Covenant College and will be sure to have her sights set towards getting back on track Wednesday.Â
