Women's Soccer: Sydney Dailey scores for Panthers in 3-1 setback at Oglethorpe

Box Score

ATLANTA – Senior midfielder Sydney Dailey of the LaGrange College women's soccer team scored her 14th collegiate goal during the 83rd minute in a 3-1 setback at Oglethorpe Sunday.

Head Coach Kennet Fosuhene made his debut for the Panthers (0-1). Dailey, who has 14 goals, 10 assists and 38 points in a Panther uniform, scored her goal on a penalty kick. Senior goalkeeper Maurie White made her ninth collegiate start and turned aside a game-high nine shots, tied for the second most in a single game in her career.

"I am very pleased with the girls today," said Fosuhene. "It was a hard-fought game. We had chances and played well. The performance was good, but unfortunately the result did not match the performance and that happens in this game. We will go back to the drawing board and start preparing for two tough games next week."

Leading the way for the Stormy Petrels (2-0) were Kirsten Wrona (2 goals), Kirsten Brown (2 assists) and Lauren Kirby (2 assists).

Sophomore Erica Bower and freshmen Kylie Russell, Marissa Oliver, Hannah Ross, Briana Suarez and Breanna Wright competed in their first record-counting game for the Panthers. Bower finished with a team-high two shots, tallying her first shot on goal during the 43rd minute.

Five minutes into the first half, senior defender Madison Demkowski made a tremendous steal at the top of the box, leading to a successful LC clear. During the 30th minute, White made an exceptional save on a shot from the left edge of the 18-yard box by Brown.

Wrona and Mackenzie Jones found the back of the net for Oglethorpe 32 seconds apart in the 32nd and 33rd minutes, respectively, giving the hosts a 2-0 cushion. The Petrels claimed a three-goal lead with 17:17 remaining in regulation, as Wrona scored off a feed by Kirby.

Brown led the way with a game-high five shots for Oglethorpe, while goalkeeper Haley Lowell earned the complete-game victory, stopping two shots. The Petrels held an 18-5 advantage in shots and led the corner kicks category, 6-1.

The Panthers will play an exhibition game against Gordon State Friday at 7 p.m. on Panther Field.
