Women's Soccer: Panthers run away with 4-0 win over Agnes Scott

Box Score

Junior captain Madison Demkowski of the LaGrange College women's soccer team scored a hat trick, including her first collegiate goal, during a 4-0 triumph over Agnes Scott Tuesday on Panther Field.

"The game went very well," said Demkowski. "We were able to connect passes, which made us unstoppable. The team wanted to win, so that is what we came out there to do. I am proud of my team."

For the first time in her career, senior Taylor Hamm scored a goal and tallied an assist in the same game. Freshman goalkeeper Leila Moss earned her first collegiate win and shutout, making two saves.

The Panthers (2-4, 2-4 USA South) finished with 30 shots and held the Scotties (0-5, 0-5 USA South) to six shots. Junior captain Sydney Dailey tallied an assist in the win.

"My takeaway tonight was the unity displayed by the team," said LaGrange College women's soccer head coach Fred Wagenaar. "Each one encouraged the other and the players were supportive even when mistakes were made. Every player got into the game and contributed, so it was a real team effort."

Dailey had a strong chance to open the scoring in the 11th minute, but her free kick went over the top of the net. Freshman midfielder Lauren Williamson made an outstanding pass to Demkowski, but the ensuing shot was saved by the goalkeeper with 28:13 left in the opening half.

Demkowski tallied the game-winning goal in the 19th minute, floating a shot into the top-left corner of the net from 25 yards out off a pass by Dailey. Just over a minute later, Williamson blasted a shot off sophomore Jordan Alexis' corner kick, but the attempt ricocheted off the crossbar.

A shot by Demkowski hit the bottom of the crossbar and trickled over the goal line with 7:21 on the clock. The goal was assisted by Hamm and gave the hosts a 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.

The Panthers went in front, 3-0, 1:11 into the second half. Hamm tallied her second goal of the season on a failed clear by the Scotties. A few minutes later, Hamm placed a perfect ball down the right attacking side, but Alexis' shot was saved by the goalkeeper with 39:42 remaining.

A goal by Demkowski in the 61st minute ended the scoring and gave LC complete control. Demkowski finished with game-highs of nine total shots and six shots on goal. Williamson put 3-of-5 shots on target. The Panthers held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Panthers will travel to Brevard for a 3 p.m. USA South game Sunday. LC ends the regular season with a noon matchup against Wesleyan Sunday, March 28, on Panther Field.
