Box Score BEREA, Ky. – The LaGrange College women's soccer team fell into an early 1-0 hole during the second minute Saturday afternoon, but the Panthers responded with four unanswered goals during a span of 13:22 in the second half to secure a 4-1 USA South triumph at Berea.
The Panthers (5-5-1, 3-3-1 USA South), who have won three consecutive games and gone 2-0-1 in their last three conference contests, are in the thick of a playoff push. The top-five teams from the West Division will qualify for the USA South Tournament. LaGrange is currently in sixth with 10 points.
The Panthers have one more USA South matchup with a 2 p.m. game at Maryville on Saturday, Oct. 23. The Scots are currently in the fifth slot with 12 points.
Senior captains Madison Demkowski (2 goals) and Sydney Dailey (1 goal, 1 assist) led the charge in the offensive end. Sophomore goalkeeper Leila Moss (3-2-1) tied a career high with a game-leading 10 saves.
Bailee Vanover of the Mountaineers scored 1:36 into the first half, assisted by Naomi Scott. Moss turned aside three shots during a span of 6:40 between the 32nd and 39th minutes, keeping the deficit at one going into halftime.
Demkowski generated the equalizer in the 68th minute, and then 1:04 later, Dailey buried her seventh career game-winning goal. Freshman midfielder Briana Suarez picked up her third collegiate assist and ninth point on Dailey's tally.
A penalty kick goal by Demkowski during the 72nd minute gave LC a 3-1 cushion. Freshman defender Breanna Wright tallied her second collegiate goal and ended the scoring with 9:09 left in regulation, assisted by Dailey.
Berea led the shots category, 17-10, and held an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal. The Mountaineers attempted six corner kicks, while the Panthers were awarded four. Alyssa Tittsworth of Berea led all players with eight total shots and four on net.
The Panthers have won three consecutive games against Berea, dating back to the 2019 season. LaGrange won, 3-1, in season-opening action at Callaway Stadium on Feb. 13. During a 2-1 LC win on Oct. 12, 2019, Dailey buried the game-winning goal with 3:38 left in regulation.
The Panthers will host senior day festivities prior to a 7 p.m. exhibition game against Emory Oxford Wednesday on Panther Field.
