RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore forward Dynasty Burchett tallied the game-winner during the 14th minute and sophomore goalkeeper Emma Smith earned her second shutout of the season, as the LaGrange College women's soccer team outlasted William Peace, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers (4-3) have been playing a great brand of soccer lately, as they have been victorious in three straight games with two of them being shutouts. LaGrange has outscored its last three opponents, 8-2, and maintains a 4-1 record in its last five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Panthers senior Maura Webb won a crucial 50-50 ball 13 minutes into the game in the attacking zone. The Jacksonville, Fla. native proceeded to find sophomore midfielder Sydney Dailey, who slipped a pass over to Burchett just outside the 18-yard box on the right side. The Yulee, Fla. native curved an impressive shot from 20 yards out over the goalkeeper's head and into the top-left corner of the net.
• Webb has been a force in the midfield, doing an outstanding job organizing the Panthers' attack with her field vision and willingness to pursue the ball aggressively.
• With just over seven minutes left in the first half, freshman defender Katelyn Peters came up with a huge defensive stand, stealing the ball with a clean sliding tackle from Pacers freshman forward Victoria Finklea in the box.
• Freshman midfielder Micaiah Slaughter placed an outstanding cross from the right attacking side during the 44th minute, but Panthers sophomore midfielder Gracie Amonett's shot went just wide right.
• Smith recorded her biggest stop in the 61st minute, turning away a rocket from inside the box by William Peace sophomore forward Grace Marion. Smith, who hails from Fernandina Beach, Fla., turned aside shots in the 85th and 86th minutes to secure the win.

WHAT THEY SAID:

Panthers Head Coach Fred Wagenaar: "LaGrange played well and possessed the ball by way of some nice passing combinations. Dynasty Burchett scored a screamer to put us ahead. Our defense played very hard and kept William Peace off the board despite some pretty intense pressure by Peace. Emma Smith made two key saves in goal to preserve the shutout. It was our best performance this year." 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Smith made four saves in the victory, increasing her career shutout total to five.
• Dailey leads the team in points (eight) and assists (four), while sitting in a tie for second in goals (two) alongside Burchett (five points) and sophomore forward Zoe Watts.
• Watts tallied a game-high four shots, while senior forward Olivia Braun (team-high three goals) contributed with three.
• The Panthers held a 9-6 advantage in shots during the first half, while William Peace (1-3) led the category, 14-11, for the entire 90 minutes. The Pacers held a slight 4-3 lead in the shots-on-goal category.
• LaGrange has tallied back-to-back 1-0 wins over William Peace, as the last one occurred in overtime on Sept. 23, 2017.
