Women's Soccer: Birmingham-Southern turns back Panthers 4-2 in 2015 opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Andrea Richard scored two second half goals as LaGrange fell 4-2 at Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday. It was the season opener for both teams.

The host Panthers took a 2-0 first half lead, holding LC without a shot in the half. Birmingham-Southern held a 20-5 shot advantage in the game.

The Panthers cut the deficit in half 14 minutes into the second half. Richard scored unassisted to make it a 2-1 game.

Birmingham-Southern went up 3-1 seven minutes later on Jessie Sperry's second goal of the game. It took the Panthers just 37 seconds to answer when Richard scored her second unassisted goal to make it a one goal game again.

The host Panthers got an insurance goal from Nicole Newton in the 81st minute for the 4-2 final.

The Panthers used two goalkeepers in the game. DeAundra Green started and played the first half, allowing the goals and making three saves. Carly Farrow went the second half, surrendering two goals and making four saves.

The Panthers play at Georgia Southwestern on Saturday.
