Women's Soccer: North Carolina Wesleyan edges Panthers in OT

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan scored in the closing seconds of the first overtime period to edge LaGrange 3-2 on Sunday. The loss was the sixth in the last seven games for the Panthers (8-9, 1-7 USA South).

North Carolina Wesleyan (6-7-1, 3-5 USA South) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Rebecca Staylor. The Bishops increased their lead to 2-0 when Staylor scored eight minutes into the second half.

Tara Harrison scored her first goal of the season off a cross from Andrea Richard to get the Panthers on the scoreboard. Mendi Kallam tied the game in the 83rd minute on a header off a corner kick from Brittany Gray.

The Bishops got the game-winner with only 26 seconds left in the first overtime. Dori Brooks put a shot in from 20 yards out for the 3-2 final.

Both teams had 19 shots in the game. The Panthers had a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The Panthers host Christopher Newport on Saturday, Oct. 20 and Mary Baldwin on Sunday, Oct. 21 in USA South games.
