Women's Soccer: Piedmont rallies to beat Panthers for GSAC title

Piedmont rallied in the second half to down LaGrange 3-2 for the GSAC Championship Tournament title at Panther Field on Saturday. The Panthers ended their season 8-12-1.

Piedmont (17-3-2) got two goals from tournament MVP Macie Rooke and the game-winner from Justine Clay. The Lady Lions out shot the Panthers 12-5 in the game.

The Panthers made their only two shots on goal in the game count, scoring on both. Shelby Stanfield and Brittany Gray had the two Panther goals.

The Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the game. Rooke scored off a corner kick from Laura Goodwin. The Panthers answered as Stanfield scored on a header off a corner kick by Mendi Kallam in the 34th minute.

The Panthers took the lead late in the first half. Gray put in a shot off a deflection as the Panthers led 2-1 at halftime.

Piedmont tied the game just three minutes into the second half. Dilyn MacLean sent a diagonal over to Rooke who finished it with a shot past Panther goalkeeper Chesea Totaro.

The Lady Lions got the game-winner in the 55th minute. Totaro misplayed Clay's direct kick from 25 yards out as the Lady Lions went up 3-2 and were able to hold off the Panthers the rest of the way.
