Track & Field Hits Gold at CCS Championships

JACKSON, Miss. – The LaGrange College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Outdoor Championships hosted by Belhaven University at the Belhaven Track and Field Complex in Jackson, Mississippi, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Freshman Ryheem Mighten (Kingston, Jamaica) dominated in the men's 400-meter dash on Wednesday, destroying his own school record with a 47.81 to claim the first place medal, shaving 1.19 off his previous best time. At press time, Mighten's time ranked him 15th in the nation. Mighten later won the men's 200-meter dash finals, posting a time of 21.57.
  • Freshman Khristian Bell (Tyrone, Ga.) picked up the first CCS gold medal in school history on Tuesday when she came in first in the women's long jump with a career-best mark of 5.22 meters. Bell later took first in the women's triple jump with a 11.16 meters, breaking her own LaGrange record.
  • Freshman A'mya Hill (Fitzgerald, Ga.) claimed first in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.32, winning her first individual medal.
  • In the women's 4 x 100 meter relay on Wednesday, the Panthers would again demonstrate their speed as the quartet of Bell, Hill, freshman Kevanique Hill (George Town, Cayman Islands) and freshman Jillian Coney (Atlanta, Ga.) took first place with a school-record time of 49.59.
  • Freshman Fabian Coleman (Atlanta, Ga.) won silver in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.91, coming in second place.
  • In the women's 200-meter dash finals, A'mya Hill and Bell took second and third place respectively, with times of 26.11 and 26.20. Kevanique Hill placed in eighth with a time of 29.22.
  • Freshman Roman Brown (Covington, Ga.) finished fourth in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 50.18.
  • Freshman D'Aaron Cox (Atlanta, Ga.) threw a distance of 10.65 in the men's shot put, setting a LaGrange school record. Cox also finished eleventh in the men's discus with a distance of 30.29 meters.

  • LaGrange competes next at the Emory Qualifier on Wednesday, May 6th in Atlanta, the Panthers' last scheduled chance to qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
