Women’s Basketball Cleans Up in CCS All-Conference Awards

LAGRANGE, Ga. – After a regular season that saw the LaGrange College women's basketball team go 18-7 overall and 14-2 in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) action to claim the number one seed in the CCS playoffs, the Panthers received their due late Tuesday as the conference announced the outcome of the All-Conference voting by the head coaches of the conference.

Senior guard Laila Battle (Smyrna, Ga.) and senior power forward Amanda Mclendon (Orlando, Fla.) were voted CCS All-Conference First Team while freshman guard Adazhah Burrell (Melbourne, Fla.) was voted CCS All-Conference Second Team.

Battle had a dominant senior campaign that saw her average 17.1 points per game with 4.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals. The senior guard opened the season by reaching the 1000 career point milestone and never looked back, claiming three CCS Player of the Week awards and leading the Panthers to a 14-2 conference record and the number one overall seed in the CCS Playoffs. The senior also secured the CCS Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the year in the same announcement.

Mclendon was a force inside for the Panthers all season, averaging 13.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game with eight double-doubles and one CCS Player of the Week award.
Burrell averaged 7.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Panthers in just her rookie season. The first-year standout peaked at the right time, scoring a career-high 19 points last Tuesday evening to help the Panthers clinch the top seed in the conference standings.

LaGrange head coach Steve Kenner was voted the CCS Head Coach of the Year in just his first season with the Panthers, guiding the team to their best conference record in more than twenty years. LaGrange boasts the second-best defense in the conference this season, with the highest rebounding per game average.  

LaGrange sophomore forward Hope Harrell (Trinity, Ala.) was named to the CCS Sportsmanship Team for her dedication during the season.

The Panthers host the CCS Semifinals on Friday, February 27th at historic Mariotti Gymnasium in LaGrange, Georgia.
