Box Score 2 After dropping game one to Piedmont University (April 19), the Panthers held on to win game two 11-9 but fell 8-5 in game three (April 20). The Lions take the CCS series 2-1.
Game two details
The first LC pitcher on the mound today was
Eduardo Peralta. In 36.2 innings pitched this season, the sophomore Panther from Panama has posted a 4.17 ERA. Peralta secured the third out of the opening inning by making a great play on a ball that was rocketed right at him. In the following inning, the Panthers put together a fantastic 4-3 double play to close out the top of the second. LC grabbed their first lead of the series when
Rhett Mixon was walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second.
Adam Dorn took advantage of the loaded bases by crushing a two-run RBI single to center field. LC ended the inning up 4-0 after
Jorge Fragoso hit another Panther RBI. The Panthers extended their lead to 5-0 thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Rhett Mixon in the third inning. The game stayed at 5-0 until Peralta walked a Lions batter with bases loaded. After this,
Jack Richards took over the LC pitching duties. The Lions finished the inning down just 5-3 as a result of a two-run PU RBI. During the seventh, the Panthers made their second change at the mound with
Eli Folds relieving Richards. The Lions finished the top of the seventh up 8-5 after hitting a handful of RBIs. LC responded by equalizing the game at eight a piece during the bottom of seventh. This was thanks to a two-run RBI double by
Riley George and a Lion throwing error that let a base runner score. Still in the seventh,
Joe Ruth placed a perfect RBI single, reclaiming a 9-8 Panthers lead. During the eighth,
Gabriel Pallo extended the Panthers lead on a RBI single. Pallo finished game one 4-4 batting. LC ended the eighth up 11-8 when the Lions walked LC with the bases loaded. The Lions responded with one run but the Panthers held on to win 11-9.
Game two Panther pitchers
Sophomore
Eduardo Peralta started today. In just over six innings pitched, he had three strikeouts with three allowed runs off of three hits.
In the sixth inning of game one, senior
Jack Richards rotated in for Peralta. Richards finished a strikeout and with two allowed runs on two hits in the one inning pitched.
Sophomore
Eli Folds relieved Richards in game one. In two innings pitched, Folds allowed four runs on seven hits. He also had five strikeouts.
Game three details
Logan Willis was the starting Panther on the rubber in game three. In 28 innings pitched this year, he has a 3.77 ERA. During the first, LC jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of RBI singles by
Adam Dorn and
Noah Preuer. The Lions took a 5-2 lead after hitting two RBIs and a two-run homer. In the third,
Caden Hare rotated in for Willis. LC closed out the top of this inning with their second double play of the day. The game sat at 5-2 through the seventh inning. During the eighth,
Nick Morgan came in to pitch for the Panthers. The Lions extended their lead to 7-2 in this inning off of a homer and an LC error that led to a score. During the eighth, the Panthers added their first points since the first inning after a wild throw allowed
Coy Phillips to walk home.
Adam Dorn then hit a sacrifice RBI single to cut the Lions lead to 7-4. The Panthers added one more run after the Lions committed another error. The visitors held a tight 7-5 lead over LC going into the ninth. In this inning,
Benjamin Epperley came out to finish the Panthers' pitching duties. Sadly, the Lions went on to win 8-5.
Game three Panther pitchers
Freshman
Logan Willis started on the mound in game three. In 2.2 innings pitched, allowed five runs off seven hits.
In the third inning, junior
Caden Hare came in for Willis. Hare threw in four innings, finishing with two strikeouts and only allowing one hit.
Junior
Nick Morgan pitched in the eighth inning of game two. He allowed two runs off of two hits.
Senior
Benjamin Epperley closed out the game for LC. In his one inning pitched, he had two strikeouts with one allowed run on one hit.
