LC Softball finishes home doubleheader 0-2

Box Score The Panthers Softball team hosted a doubleheader against the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin. They lost their first game 14-7 and 8-5 in game two.

Game one details
Sophomore Jenna Yeary was the first Panther pitcher today. The first batter for the Falcons put CUW up one after hitting a homer over the left field fence. LC responded with a three-run homer by Kelsea Moody. The Panthers were not done yet scoring in the first. Brooke Coleman singled to left, extending the lead to 4-1. In the second inning, left outfielder Abby Hefner made an incredible catch when a Falcon hit backed her up to the warning track. The game stayed at 4-1, until an explosive third inning put the visitors up 7-4. In the fourth, Yeary was relieved on the mound by sophomore Katelyn Minnihan. Over the next two innings, the Falcons scored four points to extend their lead to 11-4. In the fifth, the Panthers answered with a pair of RBI doubles by Abby Hefner and Hannah Bartnett cut the Falcons lead to 11-7. Sadly, in the sixth, the Falcons reestablished a big lead. Going into the bottom of the sixth, CUW led 13-7. The visitors would steal a 14-7 game one win. 

Game two details 
Freshman Maddie Chavin began the game on the mound for LC. In the bottom of the first, Kelsea Moody put the Panthers on the board when she hit a single RBI. In the second, the Falcons tied the game at 1-1 after a fielding error brought in a base runner. LC took a 2-1 lead when a Katelyn Minnihan RBI allowed a Panther to score. In the third, the Panthers went up 3-1 after Abby Vanhoose hit an RBI double. During the fourth, the Falcons cut the Panthers lead to 3-2 on a double RBI. Still in the fourth, Kelsea Moody's hit fell in between the center and right fielder, allowing two Panthers to score. After four, LC was up 5-2. The Panthers escaped the top of the fifth inning by only giving up one run despite the bases being loaded. In the top of the seventh, the Falcons grabbed an 8-5 lead. During this inning, Chauvin was replaced on the mound by sophomore Kelsea Moody. The Falcons held on to win 8-5.

Panther pitchers
In game one, Jenna Yeary threw in three innings today. She allowed eight runs and eight hits. 
Katelyn Minnihan pitched in three innings and faced 20 batters in game one. She gave up seven runs and six hits. Minnihan also struck out two batters. 
In six innings pitched, freshman Maddie Chavin allowed 11 hits and eight runs. She also struck out two batters. 
Kelsea Moody pitched one inning, struck out one batter and allowed zero hits.

The Panthers host Emory this Saturday (March 9) at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
