Game one details
Senior
Dalton Brooks began the day pitching for the Panthers. Brooks is 2-0 on the season and has posted an .84 ERA. The Bison of Nichols were the first team to strike in game one. In the top of first, a drive to center field brought in the Bison base runner on third. After the first inning, Nichols held a one-point advantage. In the following inning, Nichols added another point when Dalton hit a Bison batter with a pitch while the bases were loaded. The top of the second finished with the visitors up 2-0. With two outs in the second,
Hunter Brooks secured his first triple of the year when he crushed the ball into deep right field. Brooks then was hit home on a single by
Adam Dorn. After two, the Bison led 2-1. In the third, the Panthers jumped out to a 3-2 lead when
Curt Bonner's hit placed the ball over the head of the second baseman. This great placement allowed
Rhett Mixon and
Jackson McElvy to score. LC continued their hitting run when
Adam Dorn's hit squeaked through the hands of the Bison third baseman and brought in
Curt Bonner and
Colby Zinser. After three innings, the Panthers held a 5-2 lead. The game stayed at 5-2 until an overthrow to second base let the Bison base runner on third to score. Going into the bottom of the fifth, LC found themselves up 5-3. In the sixth,
Colby Zinser made an outstanding play at third base. In order to snag the Bison hit flying above him, Zinser jumped up and extended his body to get an acrobatic LC out. On the following play, catcher
Curt Bonner closed out the top of the inning when he threw out the base runner stealing to second. In the top of the seventh, senior
Benjamin Epperley relieved
Dalton Brooks of his pitching duties. Still in the seventh, Nichols cut the LC lead to 5-4. The Panthers escaped the top of the inning by getting an LC double play at second and first. Going into the eighth, sophomore
