Game Details
Freshman
Logan Willis started on the mound for the Panthers tonight. Wills has a 1-0 W/L record after pitching five innings in the 7-4 victory over Oglethorpe (Feb. 20). In that game, he threw two strikeouts, allowed eight hits and two runs. In the top of the first, the Panthers found themselves with bases loaded and two outs. That was when a walk by Willis brought an Emory runner home. With the Eagles chirping from their dugout, Willis struck out the batter to escape the top of the first only down 1-0. In the second,
Logan Willis was swapped out on the mound for junior
Nick Morgan. The top of the second finished with the Eagles up 2-0. They scored on a single down the middle that brought in the base runner on second. The Panthers responded with their first points of the day when the Eagles walked
Rhett Mixon to bring in
Curt Bonner. After two, LC trailed 2-1. In the third, Emory reestablished a two-point advantage when a double to left center allowed an Eagle to score. Emory continued to make contact on the ball in the following inning. In the fourth, the Eagles took a 4-1 lead when a double to center added an Eagle point. The next batter for Emory then hit a three-run homer to put the visitors up 7-1.
Nick Morgan was relieved by junior
McCain Mangum. Before the fourth could end, McCain was switched out for sophomore
Tyson Harnage. With the bases loaded, Harnage prevented Emory from adding to the tally by striking out the Eagles. The Panthers cut their lead to 7-2 after
Jackson McElvy hit a fielder's choice RBI to bring
Adam Dorn home.
Fletcher Hislop then singled up the middle, which drove in
Gabriel Pallo. With the bases loaded,
Brody Hollingsworth and
Fletcher Hislop were both walked, allowing two Panthers to score. Still in the fourth, LC tied the game at 7-7 when two Emory errors on the same play brought in two more Panthers. The fourth finished tied at 7-7. In the fifth, the Panthers took a lead for the first time today when
Jorge Fragoso crushed a pitch to the right field fence to drive in
Fletcher Hislop. LC finished the fifth up 9-7 thanks to a
Brody Hollingsworth single to center that brought Fragoso home. In the top of the sixth, senior
Benjamin Epperley came in to replace sophomore
Tyson Harnage. The game stayed at 9-7 until
Colby Zinser hit a beautiful ball over second base which brought in
Jorge Fragoso. Going into the top of the eight, the Panthers led 10-7. LC extended their lead to 11-7 thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Fletcher Hislop that drove home
Gabriel Pallo. In the ninth inning, senior
Benjamin Epperley was relieved by sophomore
Eli Folds to finish out the game on the mound. Folds closed out the game and the Panthers would hold on to win 11-7.
