Box Score LC begins the season 4-0 with tonight's 7-4 win over Oglethorpe (Feb. 20).
Game details
Freshman
Logan Willis had his first career start in tonight's midweek matchup against the Petrels. The first out for Willis happened when the freshman knocked down a line drive and threw out the base runner headed to first. The game stayed scoreless until senior
Adam Dorn hit a line drive to third, advancing senior
David Smigelski home. After two innings, LC led 1-0. In the third, the Panthers added two more runs. First, thanks to a sacrifice fly to left from junior
Jorge Fragoso that brought in freshman
Fletcher Hislop. Then
David Smigelski secured his first RBI of the day when his hit advanced
Jackson McElvy home. In the top of the fourth, Oglethorpe scored their first points of the day on an RBI hit between first and second. Smigelski extended the Panthers' lead to 4-1 after a wild pitch allowed the senior to steal home (second stolen base of the game for him). LC finished the fifth up 4-1. In the top of the sixth, the Petrels closed in on the Panthers' lead to 4-2 when an LC error allowed the base runner to score. During the sixth,
Logan Willis was replaced on the mound by junior
Caden Hare. The freshman from Waverly Hall, Ga. finished the night having faced 24 batters, allowing only two runs and eight hits. Through 79 pitches, WIllis threw 61 strikes and struck out two Petrel batters. The Panthers escaped the top of the sixth still up 4-2. For a chilly Tuesday night in LaGrange, Phil Williamson Stadium felt crowded. This LC crowd was thrilled when junior
Jorge Fragoso hit a double down the right field line, bringing home
Fletcher Hislop. Fragoso and graduate student
Joe Ruth would then get hit home on a double from senior
Noah Preuer. After six, the Panthers were up 7-2. In the top of the eighth, the Petrels brought the score to 7-4. Their first point came off of an LC error and the second happened when a deep hit to right brought home a runner.
Caden Hare was replaced on the mound by senior
Benjamin Epperley in the eighth. Hare finished the night striking out three batters and allowing two runs on 31 pitches. Sophomore
Eli Folds came in the game to close out the night for LC pitching. With the bases loaded and zero outs the Panthers were able to escape the night with a 7-4 win.
