Box Score 2 This Sunday (Feb. 18), the Panthers hosted the Colonels of Centre College in a doubleheader. LC dropped their first game 5-3 and lost 6-5 in the second game.
Game one details
Sophomore
Claire Chamberlain started on the mound for the Panthers today. Chamberlain has a 1-3 W/L record and a 4.89 ERA so far. In the first inning, Centre scored their first points after an LC error allowed two Colonels runners to come home. In the bottom of the inning, the Panthers responded with a double to left from junior
Zoe Veres that drove in junior
Alexa Gonzalez. Through one, LC trailed 2-1. In the second inning, Centre added two more points to the board to go up 4-1. In the fourth inning, the Panthers would close the Centre lead to 4-2, thanks to a double to right from sophomore
Katelyn Minnihan that drove in a Panther base runner. At second, Minnihan got hit home on a sacrifice RBI by sophomore
Abby Hefner. Through four innings, LC trailed 4-3. In the top of the seventh, the Colonels extended their lead to 5-3 on a sacrifice fly to deep left field. Centre would hold on to win 5-3.
Claire Chamberlain finished the game with four strikeouts and allowed nine hits on 85 pitches.Â
Game two detailsÂ
Sophomore
Jenna Yeary took over pitching for the Panthers in game two against Centre. So far this season, the Loganville, Ga. native has posted a 1-3 W/L record and a 4.04 ERA. The game stayed scoreless until a double by sophomore
Katelyn Minnihan brought home sophomore
Jaiden Gay. Sophomore
Abby Hefner came up next in the lineup for LC and hit Minnihan home on a single that dropped between the Colonels center fielder and second baseman. Through two innings, LC led 2-0. Junior
Alexa Gonzalez continued the Panther scoring run when she hit a two-run homer over the left field wall. This was the first LC home run of the season. The Panthers held a 4-0 lead after three innings.
Jenna Yeary was relieved in the fourth inning by sophomore
Katelyn Minnihan. Yeary finished the day with zero runs allowed and one strikeout on 50 pitches. In the fourth inning,
Alexa Gonzalez hit another Panther home on a single to center. Through four, LC held a 5-0 lead. In the fifth, Centre would storm back, tying the game at five. In the following inning, Centre loaded the bases on LC, but the Panthers were able to escape the inning with the score still tied at 5-5. In the seventh, Centre scored on a sacrifice RBI to center. The Colonels held on to win 6-5.
