Box Score With today's 10-2 win over the Tornados, the Panthers secured the season's first 3-0 sweep.
Game details
Sophomore
Eduardo Peralta started today on the mound for the Panthers. This was the first game of the season for the 2023 CCS Rookie Pitcher of the Year. Through three innings of pitching, Peralta struck out 7/11 batters and only allowed one hit. In the top of the fourth, Peralta was able to escape the inning giving up zero runs despite the Tornados having the bases loaded. Both teams' pitchers were playing phenomenally today and the 0-0 scoreboard reflected that. The game stayed scoreless until the Brevard pitcher hit two LC batters and allowed
Joe Ruth to crush a line drive directly back at the mound. With zero outs in the fourth and bases loaded, the Panthers scoring run began. Senior
David Smigelski was walked to bring sophomore
Jackson McElvy home for the first Panther points. Senior
Noah Preuer came up next for LC and singled to right to drive in graduate student
Joe Ruth and junior
Jorge Fragoso. Sophomore
Brody Hollingsworth kept the Panther bats alive with a single that brought Smigelski home. To close the fourth inning, Preuer scored after senior
Adam Dorn crushed a ball down the right field line. After four, LC led 5-0. Going into the fifth inning, sophomore
Tyson Harnage relieved Peralta. Peralta finished the day with eight strikeouts and allowed three hits on 74 pitches. In the fifth, Brevard responded by scoring two runs on a pair of sacrifice RBIs. The Panthers held a 5-2 lead going into the sixth. To start the inning, sophomore
Eli Folds came out to the mound to replace
Tyson Harnage. Hargage finished the day with two runs and 15 strikes on 27 pitches. The game stayed at 5-2 until freshman
Fletcher Hislop singled to shortstop and brought a Panther home. On the following play,
Jackson McElvy would drive Hislop in on a single to right. After six, the Panthers led 7-2. LC extended their lead to 8-2 after Brevard walked
Adam Dorn with the bases loaded. The Panthers finished the seventh up 9-2 thanks to Brevard walking another Panther with the bases full. In the eighth, LC added one more run when
Jorge Fragoso singled up the middle, allowing
Jackson McElvy to score. The Panthers won 10-2 to close out the opening series.
