Box Score 2 LC beat Brevard 5-1 and 10 in front of a packed Phil Williamson Stadium.
Game one details
Both teams started the season going three up and three down in the first.
David Smigelski hit a line drive rope down third base but the Brevard baseman was able to hang on to it and throw him out to close out the opening inning.
Ethan Fry started on the mound today for the Panthers. In just five innings, Fry threw five strikeouts and only allowed one run on more than 80 pitches. The first LC points of the year came from senior
Adam Dorn in the bottom of the second. The Canton, Ga. native hit a single to left which drove in Smigelski and put the Panthers up 1-0. LC extended their lead to 2-0 in the third after sophomore
Curt Bonner drove in sophomore
Jackson McElvy on a double to center. LC added another run in the fourth when McElvy hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Dorn. In the top of the sixth, the Tornados would get their lone score of the day on a deep hit to right field. Senior
Jack Richards would come in to relieve Fry on the mound. Richards finished with a strikeout and did not allow any points on 40 pitches. In the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers would score their final points of the game on a double from freshman
Fletcher Hislop that drove in two LC runners. The Panthers held on to win 5-1. LC closed out the game with a double play that had the packed LC crowd on their feet and cheering. The Panther faithful were excited to see baseball back at Cleaveland Field.Â
Game two detailsÂ
Going into game two of the Brevard series, senior
Dalton Brooks started on the mound for the Panthers. LC got on the board early, thanks to a
David Smigelski double to center which drove in
Jackson McElvy.
Noah Preuer would come up after Smigelski to ground out on an RBI that brought
Joe Ruth home. After one, the Panthers led 2-0. In the fourth, LC extended their lead to 3-0 when senior
Adam Dorn drove Smigelski home.
Dalton Brooks stayed on the mound for the Panthers until he was replaced by junior
Nash Evans in the sixth. Brooks finished with six strikeouts and allowed zero runs on 63 pitches. The Panthers first home run of the season came from senior Noah Preur in the bottom of the sixth inning. Preur's monster hit over the right center wall put the Panthers up 5-0. When it rains it pours, and in the sixth, the Panthers were pouring it on Brevard. Sophomore

Joe Ruth would each drove in a Panther runner on single line drive hits. LC would add one more run in the sixth, when a wild pitch allowed Fragoso to steal home. After six, the Panthers led 9-0. In the top of the seventh inning, LC brought in closer
Evan Jackson. On 27 pitches,
Nash Evans finished with two strikeouts and kept Brevard scoreless. The game would end early after the Panthers went up 10-0 in the bottom of the seventh.Â
