The Panthers Baseball team is back on the diamond this weekend with home games against Brevard (Feb. 17-18). The first two games are on Saturday (Feb. 17) at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and the last game is Sunday (Feb. 18) at 2 p.m.
The teams
LC Baseball has yet to play a game this season but are coming off of a 27-15 (13-5 CCS) 2023 season. This outstanding record crowned the Panthers as the 2023 CCS Regular Season Champions. The team has a lot of talent returning to the diamond this spring. One key player making his return is third baseman
Joe Ruth. Ruth was named CCS Conference Player of the Year in 2023 after posting a .402 batting average, a slugging percentage of .598, 68 hits, crushed three home runs and drove in 50 runs. Another big-time playmaker who is returning is sophomore
Curt Bonner. Last year, Bonner posted a .400 batting average (top-ten in the country for freshman), drove in 33 runs and hit three home runs. Bonner was named the 2023 CCS Rookie of the Year and earned a spot as a CCS First Team All-Conference selection. These two are just a couple of the CCS All-Conference selections making their return this season. The Brevard College Tornados are 3-0 this year after sweeping Averett University 3-1, 16-12 and 10-6 (Feb. 9-10). Junior infielder Luke Morton leads the team in hits with eight on 11 at bats.
Series history
The Panthers are 15-3 all-time against Brevard College. LC played the Tornadoes three times last season and won 9-1, 1-0 and 15-3 (April 9-10, 2023). The full series history and box scores from those games can be
