Box Score 2 This Saturday (Feb. 10), the LC Softball team opened their season hosting Rhodes College. The Panthers won the first game 5-4 and shut the Lynx out 7-0 in the second game.
Game one details
The season opener for LC started with
Claire Chamberlain on the mound. The Panthers defense began today with back-to-back great plays by senior catcher
Lindsey Green. Green made the first out of the year on a popped up tip hit. Then on the following play, she threw out the Lynx runner at second. In the second inning, the visitors scored a run when a deep hit to right drove in the runner on second. The Panthers would answer with a score of their own when Green hit a sacrifice RBI to bring
Kelsea Moody home. Rhodes found success in the third inning, scoring three runs. LC would respond with two runs of their own when
Kelsea Moody and Jenny Yeary drove in a pair of Panthers. At the halfway mark, LC was down 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth,
Claire Chamberlain crushed a pitch for the first triple of the year. Chamberlain would go on to be driven in by Moody to tie the game at 4-4. Rhodes broke the 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh inning when a deep sacrifice fly drove in a Lynx player. With their backs against the ropes,
Kelsea Moody mashed a pitch into the outfield to drive in Barnett and Swearngin to secure a 5-4 LC win.Â
Game two details
Sophomore Jenny Yeary pitched for the Panthers in the second game against Rhodes. Neither team was able to get any points on the board until Rhodes walked LC with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second. This spark opened the floodgates for LC hitting. Junior
Alexa Gonzalez drove in three more runs on a line drive double. The Panthers would finish the second inning up 4-0. Over the next few innings, both teams fell into a scoring drought. That was until the Panthers bats awoke in the fifth inning.
Claire Chamberlain began the scoring run after driving in
Abby Hefner. On the next pitch, Gonzalez would hit a bomb to center to bring in two more Panthers. This would extend the LC lead to 7-0. The Panthers would go on to win 7-0.Â
