Behind the pitching of Dalton Brooks and McKinley Erves' four RBIs, LaGrange (7-4) took the weekend series with Emory (2-3) with a 9-4 win Sunday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium.

Brooks (2-0) threw six scoreless innings. He struck out seven and walked four, while allowing only two hits. Erves was one of five Panthers with two hits. He had a two-run double as part of a four run first inning and a two-run single in the fourth.

The Panthers sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning. Judd Moore walked with one out, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Joe Ruth's single. E.J. Churchich doubled to right to put runners at second and third. Erves followed with a double to right center, driving in Ruth and Churchich for a 3-0 lead. David Smigelski's base hit scored Erves with the fourth run of the inning.

LC padded its lead in the fourth inning. The Panthers loaded the bases with one out on a single by Cael Chatham and walks to Moore and Ruth. With two outs, Erves singled through the right side, driving in two more runs and a 6-0 lead.

Brooks pitched around a lead off double in the first and left runners stranded at second and third in the second inning. He had his strongest innings in the fourth and fifth. He struck out the side in the fourth and the final two batters in the fifth.

Emory got back in the game in the eighth inning. The Eagles scored four runs off relievers Cal Fuller and Brett Caneega to get within two runs.

LC came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Chatham had a one out single and Ruth kept the inning going with a base hit. Churchich followed with a single to left to drive in Chatham. Erves walked to load the bases and Matt Eden drew another walk to force in another run. Smigelski's second hit of the game scored Churchich for a 9-4 lead.

Spencer Douches struck out the side in the ninth to close out the game. Douches has struck out nine in his last 3-1/3 innings. He has 17 strikeouts in 8-1/3 innings of work this season.

The Panthers host USA South rival Piedmont in a three-game non-conference series starting Friday.
