Box Score LaGrange blasted Maryville 13-0 on Sunday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium to complete a three-game sweep of the weekend series. The Panthers improved to 3-1, while the Scots dropped to 2-7.
E.J. Churchich drove in four runs with a pair of two-run singles. Jack Layrisson had three RBIs, two coming on his second home in as many days. Joe Ruth was 2-for-2, with a double, scored two runs and had an RBI. Christian Dyer had had his first two collegiate hits and drove in a run. Dustin Doscher, Rhett Hebert, and Mason Sanford all had doubles. Hebert batted .667 (6-for-9) in the three games with three doubles and three runs scored.
Four pitchers combined for the shutout, limiting the Scots to five hits, striking out 13 and walking three. Dalton Brooks (1-0) went the first four innings. Brooks allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out six. Ethan Fry worked three innings, giving up two hits and striking out five. Jack Richards and Cal Fuller retired the Scots in order the final two innings.
Brooks worked out of a first and third with no outs jam in the first inning. The Panthers came back in their half of the inning with three runs. Churchich drove in the first two with a bases loaded single to left. Cael Chatham's ground out scored Layrisson, whose walk loaded the bases, to make it 3-0.
LC broke it open with a four-run third inning. The Panthers followed the same script as the first inning. Churchich had his second two-run bases loaded single and Chatham's ground out brought in another run. Trey Pearce's RBI single capped the scoring in the inning, making it 7-0.
The Panthers upped the lead to 9-0 in the fourth. Ruth and Layrisson each had sacrifice flys in the inning. Sanford's ground out in the sixth brought in a run to make it 10-0. Layrisson capped his game with a two-run home run to left center in the eighth inning. Dyer's RBI single later in the inning drove in the Panthers' final run for the 13-0 final.
The Panthers play a non-conference double header at Covenant next Saturday.
