Box Score MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - LaGrange opened its 2015 season Tuesday with an 8-3 loss to Berry on the Vikings' William Bowdoin Field.
The Panthers had eight hits in the game with sophomore Alec Redden leading the way with two hits. Freshman Beau Allen had an RBI double in the game.
Junior Eric Morell (0-1) started and took the loss. Morell pitched two innings, allowing four runs, three of those earned.
Morell was followed by junior Zach Tatham and freshman Zach English, who both allowed two runs in two innings of work. Freshman Jesse Ford closed out the game for the Panthers with two scoreless innings of relief.
Berry (3-0) got all four runs off Morell in the second inning to go up 4-0. The Panthers came back with two runs in the top of the third inning.
Allen walked to start the inning and moved over to third as Jackson Patrick reached on an error. One out later, Allen scored as Ty Edwards ground out to second. Casey Bell followed with a base hit to drive in Patrick to make it 4-2.
Trailing 6-2, the Panthers got a run back in the sixth inning. Redden reached on a one-out error. Chad Pigg kept the inning going with a base hit and Allen drove in Redden with a double to left center.
The Vikings closed out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-3 final.
The Panthers open USA South play Friday at Piedmont. Game time is 4 p.m.
