Box Score Marsalis Jackson set a new LaGrange career mark with two touchdown catches as the Panthers turned back Greensboro 27-25 before a Homecoming crowd Saturday in Callaway Stadium.
Jackson's two scores gave him 19 touchdown receptions for his career, breaking the mark of 17 set by Griffin Roelle. The junior from Hinesville, Ga. led the Panthers with six catches for 109 yards.
The game was the first for the Panthers (1-3, 1-0 USA South) since Sept. 19. The Panthers avenged a 37-35 loss to the Pride (1-4, 0-2 USA South) last year in Greensboro.
"It was great to get back on the field and play after three weeks," Coach Matt Mumme said. "We had some great drives on offense and needed to finish better on some others.
"The defense once again did a great job. I was proud of how they never quit on the last drive and forced the turnover to win the game."
Quarterback Connor Blair capped a short 35-yard drive with a 21-yard strike to Jackson on the fourth play of the second quarter for a 10-0 lead. The pair had hooked up on a 12-yard completion on fourth-and-eight the play before.
The touchdown was sandwiched around two Zack Kudwa field goals, the first from 19 yards and the second from 20 yards on the final play of the first half for a 13-0 lead.
Leading 13-7 in the third quarter, the Panthers needed only four plays to push the lead back to 13.
Drew Lewiski dashed 36 yards to the Pride's 29-yard line. It was the longest run of the season for the Panthers. Three plays later, Blair and Jackson connected again from 21-yards out to cap the 65-yard drive.
In the fourth quarter, the Panthers put together another 65-yard scoring drive. Jackson's acrobatic catch for 39 yards down to the Greensboro 5 on a fourth down play set up Jamarkis Holmes' touchdown run on the next play to make it 27-13 with 10:33 remaining.
Greensboro came back with two quick scores, the second after a turnover to cut the Panthers' lead down to two.
The Pride got the ball back with 2:31 and had first down at the Panthers' 25. Demetrius Rodgers sacked quarterback Mac Graham for an eight yard loss, then Marcus Valentine sealed the win with an interception at the 10.
Blair finished the game with 297 yards passing, the touchdown passes to Jackson and no interceptions. Holmes had 41 yards on the ground on eight carries.
Brandon Penn led the defense with nine tackles and had an interception in the second half. Royce Owens had five tackles, including two quarterback sacks.
