Box Score 3 SELMA, Ala. - The LaGrange volleyball team swept three matches at the Selma Classic hosted by Concordia College. The three wins capped a 4-1 week for the Panthers, now 5-8 overall.
The Panthers opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Concordia on Friday, taking the match by scores of 25-15, 25-21, and 25-17.
Freshman Danyelle Carr led the Panthers with nine kills, finishing the match with a .421 attack percentage. The team had an overall attack percentage of .270 in the match.
Sophomore Mary Katherine Schmitz had a double-double of 22 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore Sterling Ancrum tied Schmitz for team honors with 11 digs also.
On Saturday, the Panthers blanked Judson 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-5. Carr led the Panthers with six kills, while freshman Madison Grapp added five. Schmitz had 18 assists, while sophomore Aspen Coggins had a team-high nine digs.
The Panthers closed out the tournament with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Tennessee Temple. The Panthers lost the first set 27-25, then came back to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-23, and 26-24.
Carr had a personal and team season-high of 16 kills. She had an attack percentage of .424 in the match. Freshman Emily Arnold followed with 11 kills and Katie Chancellor had eight, ending the match with a .667 attack percentage.
Schmitz had a career-best 40 assists to go with 19 digs for her second double-double of the tournament. Grapp and sophomore Megan Lee tied for team honors with 20 digs each, with Coggins adding 17.
The Panthers play at Talladega on Wednesday in a non-conference match. They open USA South play next Saturday in Montgomery, Ala. against Piedmont and Huntingdon.
