Box Score LaGrange rolled to its third straight win, crushing Centre 16-1 on Tuesday at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium. The non-conference victory raised the Panthers' record to 8-14, while the Colonels fell to 5-15.
The Panthers set a season high with the 16 runs, just two days after scoring 11 at Maryville. It was the most runs in a game since beating Albion 20-1 during the 2012 season and the first time scoring in double-digits in back-to-back games, set also against Albion in 2012.
The Panthers had 10 hits in the game. They took advantage of six errors in the game by Centre and the Colonels' pitching which issued nine walks, two hit batters and seven wild pitches.
Chris Laye had two hits and drove in three runs. In the last two games, Laye has seven RBIs, after having only three in his first 17 games.
Alex Murfin had a hit, scored three runs and also had three RBIs. Keith Sims walked three times and also scored three runs.
Blake Schuck had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs, while Alec Redden had two RBIs.
The Panthers scored a run in the first inning, then broke out with five runs in the second. They put the game out of reach with three runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth.
Tyler Brooks (1-1) went six innings to even his record. Brooks scattered six hits, gave up an unearned ru, walked two and struck out three.
Cole Anderson pitched two shutout innings, retiring all six batters he faced and striking out three. Bruno Aurnhammer closed out the game by throwing a scoreless ninth.
The Panthers host Covenant in a three-game USA South series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday, scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
