Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LaGrange hosted Birmingham-Southern in a doubleheader Sunday in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field.

The visiting Panthers took both games of the twinbill by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. The host Panthers are now 0-3, while Birmingham-Southern improved to 3-0.

The Panthers had six hits in the first game. Cain Sauls had a pair of hits and drove in a run. Casey Bell had a single and an RBI, while Chris Laye added a double.

Justin Yestrumsky (0-1) started for the Panthers and went six innings. He allowed four runs, only two were earned, and six hits.

Daniel Garrett pitched two scoreless innings; walking one and striking out two. Patrick Riley gave up two runs in the ninth inning.

The Panthers opened the scoring in their first at-bat. Keith Sims walked with one out. He took second on a wild pitch, stole third and came around to score on an error.

Birmingham-Southern built a 4-1 lead through six innings. In the Panthers' half of the eighth, Laye opened the inning with his double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored as Bell reached on a fielder's choice to make it 4-2.

Trailing 6-2, the Panthers rallied in the ninth. Alex Murfin reached on an error and Jim Reed followed with a single. One out later, Sauls drove in Murfin to cut the deficit to 6-3.

The Panthers loaded the bases with two outs after Laye reached on a fielder's choice and pinch-hitter Chad Pigg was hit by a pitch.  But reliever Ryan Grimes was able to get the final out to end the game.

In the second game, Jarred Adams pitched the first five innings, allowing four runs. Jonathan Fleckenstein gave up two unearned runs in 2-2/3 innings. Tyler Brooks pitched the final four outs.

Birmingham-Southern's Jacob Mayfield hit for the cycle and drove in four runs. He had an RBI double in the first, drove in a run with a triple in the third, hit a two-run home run in the fifth and completed the cycle with a single in the ninth.

The Panthers got both of their runs in the seventh. Bell had a one-out single and Pigg followed with a double to left field. Bell scored as Adam Terrinoni grounded out and Pigg came home on James Maxwell's infield hit.

The Panthers play at Emory on Wednesday before hosting Bates on Thursday at 6 p.m.
