Box Score Emory downed LaGrange 8-4 on Monday in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field despite a grand slam home run from the Panthers' James Hall. The loss dropped the Panthers to 21-20, while the Eagles improved to 21-15.
The Panthers out hit the Eagles 10-9. Hall, Jon Brock and Miles Lee each had two hits in the game.
Hall's home run came in the fifth inning with the Panthers trailing 6-0. Anthony Iannetta walked to lead off the inning and was safe at second on an error as Brock reached on a fielder's choice. Kyle Nerbonne walked with two outs to keep the inning going and load the bases for Hall.
Hall sent Connor Dillman's pitch over the left field fence to draw the Panthers within two runs. The home run was the first for the Panthers at Cleaveland Field since Bobby Woodall's on April 26, 2011, also against Emory. The grand slam was also the first one by a Panther since Craig Mobley hit a pinch-hit one against Arcadia on March 12, 2011.
Emory built its 6-0 lead against Derek O'Kelley (1-1), the first of five pitchers in the game for the Panthers. Tyler Brooks pitched a scoreless inning after Kelley. Henry Jacobs surrendered a run in two innings of work.
Patrick Riley had two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out two. Gage Mooney gave up an unearned run in the ninth inning for the 8-4 final score.
The Panthers play a doubleheader at Oglethorpe on Tuesday. They return to Cleaveland Field on Friday to host Huntingdon in a three-game series to close out the regular season.
