Box Score 2 ZEBULON, N.C. - LaGrange reached the championship game of the USA South Tournament with two more wins Saturday at Five County Stadium.
The Panthers (20-16), seeded fourth, started the day with a 4-3 walk-off win against second-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan. They came from behind to oust Piedmont 7-4, who had beaten them on the first day of the tournament.
The Panthers will face Methodist on Sunday for the conference championship. The Panthers must beat the Monarchs twice to claim the title.
In the first game, the Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the first inning. They came back to tie the game on Anthony Iannetta's two-run single, then take a 3-2 lead on Blake Schuck's RBI single.
The Bishops tied the game at 3-3 off reliever Tyler Brooks (3-2) in the ninth inning. The Panthers came right back to get the win.
Iannetta walked and Brent Kinsey singled to start the inning. Iannetta was forced at third as Jon Brock reached on a fielder's choice. Cody Muren followed with a base hit to drive in Kinsey with the winning run.
The Panthers had 14 hits in the game. Muren, Kinsey and Schuck all had three hits.
Facing Piedmont for the second time in the tournament, the Panthers fell behind 4-1 in the fourth inning. They scored twice in the fourth and again in the seventh to tie the game 4-4.
