LaGrange bounced back from two straight losses to down Centre 5-1 on Tuesday night in Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field. The Panthers improved to 8-14 on the season, while the Colonels slipped to 9-11 with their third straight loss.

Freshman Tyler Brooks (1-0) pitched 6-1/3 innings to get his first collegiate win. Brooks gave up six hits, walked one and struck out four. Isaiah Whitfield pitched the final 2-2/3 innings to record his first save of the season.

The Panthers banged out 11 hits. James Hall and Anthony Iannetta were both 2-for-2 coming off the bench. Cameron Eison, Cody Muren and Josh Shiver all had two hits.

Centre broke up a scoreless game in the fourth inning. Cody Nelson beat out an infield hit with one out. He later scored on Jason Osterman's two-out single to right center to put the Colonels up 1-0.

The Colonels' Kyle Delong (0-1) held the Panthers to just three hits through the first five innings. The Panthers broke out against Delong in the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Iannetta opened the inning with a pinch-hit single and stole second. Muren beat out a bunt single and an error on the play allowed Iannetta to score the tying run. The Panthers added two more runs on a RBI double by Jon Brock and a run-scoring single by Shiver.

The Panthers padded their lead in the seventh inning off reliever Tommy Munoz. The Panthers loaded the bases with one out. Muren singled up the middle to drive in a run and David Miller flew out to right field to drive in another and give the Panthers a 5-1 lead.

The two teams play again Wednesday at 4 p.m.
