Drake Nahrwold's fourth quarter field goal lifted LaGrange to a 13-10 win over Maryville at Callaway Stadium on Saturday. The Panthers (1-2) picked up their first win of 2011, while keeping the Scots (0-3) winless.

Quarterback Ed Russ rushed for a game-high 105 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers. Russ became the first Panther quarterback to rush for over 100 yards in a game.

The Panthers had 265 yards of total offense in the game, 220 on the ground. Russ and Michael May were a combined 7-for-16 for 45 yards.

Kent Gibson had 53 yards rushing on six carries and returned three kickoffs for 85 yards. He finished with 141 all-purpose yards.

The Panther defense held Maryville to 104 yards rushing and 175 yards passing in the game. Sophomore linebacker Andre Carter had 10 tackles, including one for a loss. Sophomore defensive end Jeremy Banks had eight tackles, including three for losses.

Maryville led 10-0 after the first quarter. Quarterback Scott Conner threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Wesley Idlette to cap an 11-play 69-yard drive for the first score. Andrew Naboa added a 23-yard field goal with 5:09 left in the quarter.

The Panthers came back with 10 second quarter points to tie the game. Russ went around the right side 27 yards on the first play of the quarter to put the Panthers on the board. Russ' run finished a quick four-play 58-yard drive.

The Panthers ground out an 11-play drive to tie the game after Naboa came up short on a 32-yard attempt. The Panthers moved to the Scots' 11-yard line before bogging down. Nahrwold came on and hit from 28-yards to make it 10-10 at the half.

The two teams traded punts during a scoreless third quarter. The Panthers put together an 11-play drive on their first possession of the fourth quarter to take the lead.

Russ ran for 22 yards on a second down play to the Maryville 28. Torre Pike gathered in a 12-yard pass from Rust to the 14. Three plays gained three yards and Nahrwold came on and put the Panthers in the lead for the first time with a 27-yard field goal with 6:23 left in the game.

Maryville threatened on its final possession of the game. The Scots moved from their own 37 down to the Panthers' 25-yard line. Three plays later, the Scots faced fourth and eight with 24 seconds remaining. Naboa's 39-yard field goal attempt to tie the game sailed to the right and the Panthers celebrated their first win.

The Panthers host North Carolina Wesleyan next Saturday at 1 p.m.
