LaGrange forced the overtime with a late fourth quarter drive to tie the game. Ed Russ scored from the one and Drake Nahrwold's extra point tied the game at 14. The drive was 60 yards in 11 plays and followed Trine taking the lead on Devin Leas' 4-yard run.
On the ensuing kickoff, Trine's Myron Puryear muffed the return at his 5 and eventually was tackled in the end zone for an apparent safety. The play was ruled a touchback because of the muff and the Thunder took over at their own 20.

The Panthers trailed 7-0 at halftime. Combs' interception of Russ on the Panthers' first play from scrimmage led to a 13-yard touchdown run by quarterback Ryan Hargraves less than four minutes into the game.
The Panthers best scoring chance of the half came in the second quarter. Russ threw an 18-yard completion to Rodarius Houston to the Thunder 21. He ran 11 yards and another first down to the 10. But on the next play, he fumbled the snap with the Thunder's Kyle Sherwood recovering at the 18.
The Panthers put together a 8-play 60-yard scoring drive in the third quarter to tie the game. Russ had two completions to Devin Billings and with a 15-yard run by D. D. McMillian, the Panthers moved to the Thunder 20. On first and goal at the 9, Aaron Duncan ran into the middle of the line, bounced off would be tacklers and went around the right side for the touchdown. Nahrwold's extra point tied the game 7-7 heading to the fourth quarter.
