LaGrange had 10 hits in the game. Jason Aylesworth, Eric Heath
and Robbie Shelton each had two hits. Heath had a double included
in his hits and drove in two runs.
The 2-3-4 hitters in Birmingham-Southern's lineup had nine of the
team's 15 hits and drove in eight runs. Brandon Rico had four hits,
including a home run and two doubles. Drew Leachman and Sam Hill
had three RBIs each.
Birmingham-Southern jumped on Panther starter James Yancy in the
first inning. The visiting Panthers got home runs from Sam Hill and
Rico as part of a four-run inning.
Trailing 5-0, the Panthers got two runs back in their half of the
second inning. Jordan Martinec led off the inning with a double.
The Panthers loaded the bases with no outs. Kevin Bowman grounded
into a double play as Martinec scored. Luis Perez scored the second
run as Aylesworth beat out an infield single.
Birmingham-Southern built a 12-2 lead going into the bottom of
the seventh inning. The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of
the seventh to make it 12-5. Heath had a two-run single and Shelton
had a run-scoring base hit in the inning.
The Panthers closed out the scoring in the ninth. Heath led off
with a hustling double on a base hit up the middle. He later scored
on an infield throwing error after Shelton grounded out for the
inning's second out.
The Panthers host the University of the South in doubleheader
Saturday beginning at noon. The two teams play again Sunday
beginning at 1 p.m.
