May was starting in place of Drew Carter, who
was injured in the first half against Wesley last week. He was
21-for-34 for 161 yards, no interceptions and the two
touchdowns.
The LaGrange defense forced five turnovers in the game. The Blue
Tigers (0-6) fumbled the ball away three times and had two passes
intercepted. All of the Panthers' points came off of the Lincoln
turnovers.
Jeremy Pickens led the defensive charge for the Panthers. He had 13
total tackles, as the Panthers limited Lincoln to 201 yards of
total offense.
George Okpani recovered a fumble at the Blue Tigers' 22-yard line
to set up the first Panthers' touchdown. Three plays later, May hit
Stephen Tuck on a 22 pass play and Josh Stripling's extra point
made it 7-0 with 2:22 left in the first quarter.
The Panthers upped their lead to 14-0 in the second quarter. The
defense set up the score again, as Andrew Christie recovered a
fumble at the Lincoln 28.
The Panthers cashed in off the turnover in four plays. May hooked
up with Tuck for 12 yards down to the 2. On the next play, he found
Nick Langley for the touchdown with 9:53 left in the half. Langley
became the first Panther to reach 1,000 career receiving yards with
a 12-yard reception later in the second quarter.
Stripling extended the Panthers lead to 17-0 by halftime with a
26-yard field. The field goal was set up by Joe White's fumble
recovery. White's play stopped a Lincoln drive that had reached the
Panthers' 31-yard line.
Lincoln put together its lone scoring drive on its first possession
of the second half. The Blue Tigers drove 55 yards in seven plays
to cut the Panthers' lead to 17-7.
The defense stopped Lincoln twice inside the Panthers' 35 in the
fourth quarter. The Blue Tigers' last two possessions ended on
interceptions by Joe Frye and Tim Hill. Stripling closed out the
scoring with a 30-yard field goal following Frye's
interception.
The Panthers host MacMurray at Callaway Stadium next Saturday.
