LAGRANGE, Ga. – Senior shortstop
Jackson McElvy (Kennesaw, Ga.) of the LaGrange College baseball team has been named the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Player of the Week for the week ending April 26
th in an announcement by the conference on Tuesday.
McElvy was dynamite during the Panthers three-game series against Maryville to conclude their regular season, as the senior shortstop batted .769 (10-for-13), reaching base at an .824 clip with a 1.000 slugging while driving in five runs and scoring six times. He added three walks and a home run, which came in the form of a leadoff shot in game two on Friday — marking the 200th hit of his collegiate career and giving the Panthers an early lead they maintained throughout the game. McElvy also contributed on the mound in the same contest, switching to relief pitcher and recording the save with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out three without allowing a run. Defensively, he added 10 assists and seven putouts, finishing the week without an error.
For the season, McElvy leads the Panthers in batting average (.414), on-base percentage (.528), hits (60), runs scored (60), total bases (73) and walks (28). At press time, he ranks fifth in the entire nation in runs scored and sixth in runs scored per game.
The fifth-seeded Panthers play in the opening round of the CCS playoffs on Wednesday, April 29
th when they travel to Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi to play the second-seeded Blazers of Belhaven University in an 11:00 a.m. game.
