LAGRANGE, Ga. - Panther Men's Basketball (6-15, 1-7 Collegiate Conference of the South) heads out of town this weekend (Feb. 7-8) to face off with the Eagles of Asbury University (6-14, 2-5 CCS) and the Scots of Maryville College (15-5, 6-1 CCS) for two CCS bouts.
The Matchups
After a short reprieve from conference action in the form of a double-digit victory over Pensacola Christian, the Panthers will look to capitalize on the fresh start this weekend as they take on an Asbury squad whom they dropped 105 points on in a win back on Jan. 18. With the team beginning to find their identity late in the year, LC will also look to put together another strong showing on Saturday as they take on the conference's second-best team in Maryville. After taking the top team in the CCS, Belhaven, to the limit the other night, they will have all the confidence in the world that they can do the same to the Scots and more as they look to capture a season-defining win.
The Eagles have had their fair share of struggles this season, winning only six games, a pair of which came in conference against Piedmont University and Covenant College, two teams that actually bested LaGrange a few weeks ago. The worst offensive team in the CCS, Asbury will need to find some kind of life on Friday when they take on the fiery Panthers who seek their first back-to-back wins since Dec. 11-14 of last year when they defeated Warren Wilson and Greensboro College.
The Scots will look to continue their success this season, losing only one game in conference to Belhaven. They rank fourth in the conference offensively and second in defense, scoring 81.5 points per game and allowing only 73.4 points per game.
Players to Watch
Samuel Moss was the star of the game on Tuesday for LC, scoring 17 points with five rebounds and a steal to the East Coweta High School product's ledger.
Asbury will look to Ben McNew to spark the Eagle offense on Friday. The senior guard leads the team 264 points so far this year, in addition to 26 assists and 24 steals.
Reed Kemp leads the Scots with 479 points this season. He also has 104 rebounds, 38 assists and 22 steals to his name as well.
Where to Watch
Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 4 p.m. start on Saturday. The contests are set to take place at Asbury's Luce Center Gym and Maryville's Cooper Athletic Center. For links to stream the games and live stats,
