Men’s Hoops Hold Off Asbury to Advance to CCS Semis

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The fourth-seeded LaGrange College men's basketball team won 91-80 against visiting fifth-seeded Asbury University in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Quarterfinals on Tuesday evening at the Mariotti Gymnasium in LaGrange, Georgia.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Up to 39-35 at halftime, the Panthers found themselves clinging to a one-point lead with 7:44 remaining in the game, 59-58. LaGrange caught fire at the best possible time, using a 12-2 run capped off with a steal and fastbreak layup from junior guard Austen Colton (Sharpsburg, Ga.). In the final 1:09 of the game, LaGrange senior guard Devin Dowell (LaGrange, Ga.), playing in the final home game of his collegiate career, scored eight points to seal it for the Panthers as they advanced to the CCS semifinals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Colton finished with 19 points and six assists, burying five three-pointers from behind the arc.
  • LaGrange senior forward Trenton Dillard (Jonesboro, Ga.) matched a career-high with 16 points and seven rebounds. Dowell finished with 15 points, five rebounds and two steals.
  • LaGrange senior guard Micah McAllister (Newnan, Ga.) scored the Panthers' first six points of the game, finishing with 12 points and seven boards.
  • LaGrange sophomore forward Kani Rashied-Henry (Tyrone, Ga.) finished with nine points and eight rebounds with two blocks. Rashied-Henry's block total for the season currently ranks third all-time in LaGrange.
  • Asbury freshman forward Lual Ayiei (Juba, South Sudan) dominated the paint with 15 points and 14 rebounds with four blocks while junior forward Tyler Hall (Lexington, Ky.) posted 15 points, four rebounds and four assists.
  • Offensive rebounding kept the Panthers in the game, as the held a 19-1 edge in that category.

  • LaGrange is back on the court on Friday when they travel to Maryville College for a 7:00 p.m. game against the top-seeded Scots.
