LAGRANGE, Ga. – The LaGrange College football team plays host to visiting North Carolina Wesleyan University on Saturday at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange, with the kickoff coming at 1:00 p.m. It will represent the USA South conference opener for both teams.
The Panthers enter the day with a 2-1 record coming off their bye week after a 20-6 win against Centre College on September 20
th.
Junior quarterback
Henry Brodnax (Newnan, Ga.) leads LaGrange, averaging 248 passing yards per game with four touchdown passes in three games, leading USA South in passing yards, passing yards per game and passing yards per completion.
Brodnax's top weapon has been freshman wide receiver
Dami'on Thompson (Atlanta, Ga.), who has earned USA South Offensive Rookie of the Week honors twice through just three games this season. Thompson has been a show-stopper for the Panthers, with a 77-yard touchdown reception against Point University in the home opener and an 88-yard touchdown against the Colonels in week three. Thompson currently ranks second in the nation in yards per reception with a 31.33 yards average.
Senior wide receiver
Ashton Bryant (Athens, Ga.) has caught ten passes for 176 yards and one score thus far.
Senior kicker
Landon Eaker (Ringgold, Ga.) has emerged as one of the best kickers in the conference, ranking third in the conference in scoring. Eaker's sole miss thus far this year was off a blocked field goal against Centre.
Sophomore linebacker
Ched Smith (Macon, Ga.), last year's USA South Defensive Rookie of the Year, has led the Panther defense. Smith has three sacks, 14 tackles and two quarterback hurries. Junior defensive end
Matthew Moore (Effingham, Ga.) and sophomore defensive back
Aidan Johnson (Winder, Ga.) each have two interceptions thus far.
The Battling Bishops of NC Wesleyan (2-1) are led by junior running back
Nahjir Seagraves (Southern Pines, N.C.) who has averaged nearly 150 rushing yards per game. Sophomore quarterback
Javier Rice (Black Mountain, N.C.) has thrown for 307 yards and four touchdowns through three games.
General admission tickets are $10 at Callaway Stadium, with a $5 rate for veterans of the military and first responders. Admission is free to children under twelve. LaGrange students, faculty and staff with an LC I.D. also receive free admission, along with their guests.
