LC Men's Basketball heads to Covenant Thursday for key conference matchup

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The LaGrange College Men's Basketball Team (4-10, 0-2 Collegiate Conference of the South) travels to Lookout Mountain, Ga on Thursday (Jan. 9) to take on the Covenant College Scots (5-6, 0-0 CCS) as both teams look to secure a much-needed conference win.

The Matchup
The Panthers are coming off a tough 96-65 loss on the road at Belhaven University Tuesday (Jan. 7). Having to face a relative gauntlet to start conference play with two games against the top teams in the CCS, LC will look to take advantage of a slight reprieve as they battle with a similarly struggling Covenant squad. LaGrange's last loss to the Scots came on February 15, 2023 in a heartbreaking one-point defeat in a 69-68 final, a game which they have since rectified, winning three straight matchups over the last two seasons. The Panthers will be sure to capitalize on the opportunity Thursday as they set their sights on igniting a run to the postseason.

As for the Scots, they have proven to be a relatively untested group at this juncture in the season, playing only 11 games thus far. They currently sit among the top three in the conference offensively with 1,034 points this season, good for a conference-best 94 points per game. Defensively, however, they stand at the bottom, allowing 1,082 points to opponents this season at 98.4 points allowed per game. One of the two remaining CCS teams who have yet to play a conference tilt, they will finally have the chance to put their early season performance to the test this Thursday against LaGrange.

Players to Watch
The Panthers will look to their top-scorer in Kameron McCall to ignite their offense Thursday against Covenant. The sophomore guard out of Marietta, Ga leads the team with 168 points, good for 12 points per game in addition to another team-best 32 assists.

The Scots will also need support from their best offensive weapon, Logan Patterson, in order to obtain their first conference win. The junior Section, Al native currently leads the team with 158 points at 14.4 points per game.
