LC names new Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach

Kevin Riordan has been hired as the second ever Head Coach of the LC Men's Lacrosse program.

Most recently, Riordan was the Head Coach at Coastal Carolina University. CCU competes at the MCLA D2 level (competitive club lacrosse). In his first year (2024), his team earned an invitation to the National Championship, eight players earned all-conference honors, including the Defensive Player of the Year and the Face-off Specialist of the Year.

Prior to CCU, Riordan made his first stop in the south, taking on the role of Assistant Men's Lacrosse Coach at Methodist University (2021-23). In 2023, he spearheaded one of the USA South's top offenses and coached the conference's Player of the Year.

When talking about moving even further south, Coach Riordan said, "With lacrosse growing in the south I'm excited at the potential a school like LaGrange has. It's no secret Georgia is an emerging hot bed for lacrosse talent, to give those players an opportunity to build a nationally competitive team and represent "the south" is very attractive to me. This is the challenge I had hoped for from day one in coaching college lacrosse and I feel blessed to have the opportunity."

Before MU, Riordan made stops as the assistant coach at New York Institute of Technology (2019-21), Susquehanna University (2016-19), Montclair State University (2015-16) and Saint John's University (2013-14). While at Saint John's, he coached the conference's POY and helped elevate the team to #6 in the country.

Riordan's collegiate lacrosse career started at Nassau Community College (1994-95) and concluded at the New York Institute of Technology (1996-97). During his final season, he helped the team win the NCAA Division II National Championship. In 2017, he was inducted into the NYIT Sport Hall of Fame.

When discussing why he chose LC, Riordan stated, "I am incredibly excited to be taking on the role of head coach at the program I wanted in the region I wanted as well. Coach Sewell has laid a solid foundation that I look forward to continuing to build on. My ultimate goal is to make LaGrange the ultimate lacrosse destination in the south and put Georgia on the lax map."

In closing, Riordan stated, "I would like to thank Athletic Director Olds, President Baxter, and the LaGrange administration for this opportunity to develop the program and help our student-athletes improve athletically and become valued members of their communities. Go Panthers!"
