Box Score 2 Despite a late Panther comeback, Illinois Tech did just enough to hold on to win 10-9 over LC in game one (Feb. 17). The Panthers were edged out by Sewanee 19-7 in game two (Feb. 18).
First game details
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in today's game against the Scarlet Hawks. This was thanks to a goal by sophomore Luke Young and senior Klein Woods. The Hawks would respond with a goal after the Panther defense left a Hawk wide open to stuff it in from the crease. Illinois Tech would equalize the game at 2-2 after a shot got past Panther goalie Lucas Webb. The Hawks would lead 3-2 going into the second. Illinois Tech would go on a 4-0 run in the second to go up 6-2. They would hold onto the four-point lead going into the half. The Hawks extended their lead to 8-3 after hitting two settled goals in the third. LC was creating opportunities on offense but nothing was falling. The first Panther goal of the half came from junior midfielder Anthony Dalessandro. The Canton, Ga. native scored when he cut from the top of the field and was fed the ball from a Panther behind the net. With 10 minutes left, the Hawks led 8-4. This goal would spark a LC comeback. Over the next three minutes, the Panthers cut the Hawks lead to 8-7 thanks to a goal from Ryan Comeau, Andrew Brown and Klein Woods. With under six minutes remaining, the Panthers tied it up at 8-8 when Woods scored again. In the following two minutes, the teams traded points to tie it at 9-9. At the two-minute mark, the Hawks would score to go up 10-9. They would hold on to win 10-9.
Second game details
In the second game of the weekend the Nashville trip, the Panthers took on the Sewanee Tigers (Feb. 18). The Tigers started this game jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first six minutes. LC would respond with goals from sophomore Luke Young and junior Ryan Comeau. After one, the Tigers led 5-2. The next Panther point came at the ten-minute mark of the second quarter. Sophomore Andrew Brown hit a cutting Luke Young for Young to secure his second goal of the day. At halftime, Sewanee led 10-3. Senior Lucas Webb was in goal for the Panthers today. Webb finished the half with 16 saves, posting a .615 save percentage. In the third period, Young would score his third and final goal of the day on a freshman Mason Hufstetler assist. Ryan Comeau also added another goal to his tally in the third. Going into the final period, LC trailed 15-5. Comeau would hit his third and fourth goals of the game in the fourth, but it was just not enough for the Panthers to close the gap. The Tigers won 19-7. Ryan Comeau finished with a team-high four goals. Lucas Webb finished with a .633 save percentage and 19 saves.
