LC Men’s Basketball takes on Brevard in home opener

The Panthers are set to host the Brevard College Tornadoes in their first home game of the 2024-25 season at Mariotti Gymnasium next Monday (Nov. 25) at 5 p.m. The LC Reserve Team will play once the game concludes.

The Matchup
The Panthers hold a 2-2 record after picking up a pair of wins at the Huntingdon Classic last weekend (Nov. 15-16). Following an impressive start to the season, sophomore guard Kameron McCall leads LaGrange with an average of 15.3 points per game while shooting an efficient 49% from inside the arc. Sophomore guard Devin Dowell, a new addition to LC, has showcased his sharp-shooting ability, hitting 50% from two-point range and 46% from distance while averaging 11.5 points. The combination of these two skilled guards mixed with the talented Samuel Moss and Shaun Nichols, is surely going to shape one of the most dangerous backcourts in the conference.

After dropping their season opener to Randolph College (Nov. 9), the Brevard Tornadoes rebounded with back-to-back victories, improving to 2-1. Leading the team in scoring is freshman guard Brennan Wansley with 15.7 ppg, shooting 62% from two and 58% from long range. Trailing slightly behind Wansley with 11.3 ppg is senior guard Charlie Hester. Not only is he an older leader, prior to joining the Tornadoes, Hester spent his first two collegiate seasons playing for conference foes Covenant College, so the guard is already acquainted with LaGrange.

Panthers to watch
Kani Rashied-Henry is the player to watch in the Panthers home-opener. The 6-foot-8 freshman forward has shined early this season, averaging a team-high 7.5 rebounds alongside proven playmaker Brodie Scott. Despite being young, Rashied-Henry has demonstrated his ability to pick and choose smart shots, leading to the big man hitting a superb 70% of his field goals and one of his two three-pointers throughout the year. BC has used the slightly smaller but more experienced Jadon Carnes in the low-post, so pay attention to how Rashied-Henry utilizes his size to control the paint.
