The LaGrange College Volleyball Team (6-15, 3-7 Collegiate Conference of the South) heads to Macon, Ga Saturday (Oct. 19) to face off with CCS foes Wesleyan College (2-13, 1-8 CCS) and Asbury University (13-5, 8-0 CCS), their second meeting with the two teams this season in tri-match play.
The Matchup
The Panthers are coming off a momentous home win Wednesday (Oct. 16) against Huntingdon College, downing the Hawks 3-1 in one of the best all-around team performances of the season. The victory also earned them their first back-to-back conference wins in over two years, dating back to Oct. 12, 2022 when they bested Agnes Scott College and Belhaven University in consecutive games. Riding the momentum of their newly found stride, the Panthers have all the confidence in the world that they can walk away with not one, but two CCS wins when it is all said and done Saturday evening.
Host Wesleyan is searching for a bounce-back performance after dropping a straight-set loss to Agnes Scott Wednesday, a game in which the Scotties exacted their revenge to a loss at the hands of the Wolves earlier in the season. They will look to snap an eight-game losing streak, a skid that has seen the Wolves drop 24 consecutive sets. With the home court advantage and two tries to do so, however, WC will be sure to deliver everything in their arsenal Saturday.
In steep contrast to both teams, the Eagles of Asbury have enjoyed nothing short of one of the most dominant seasons in school history, going undefeated in conference play so far this year. Despite the eight-game winning streak in conference, they are looking to bounce back from a tough home loss to Anderson University (IN) in which they were bested by a final score of 3-1. They have breezed through the competition thus far this year, with only one conference match being decided by one set, which came against the Panthers of LaGrange back in September where they won 3-2.
Players to Watch
Kaitlin Gilchrist has proven to be a catalyst for the Panthers' efforts of late, with 18 kills and nine digs in the last three outings.
Pippa Tilley is the Wolves main playmaker, leading her squad with 185 assists so far this season.
Lucy Kate Gray has been a setting mastermind for the Eagles this year, leading the team with 407 assists and also registering 24 service aces.
Where to Watch
The Panthers are scheduled to hit the court against Wesleyan at 12 p.m. and at 2 p.m. to take on Asbury.
