LAGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange (7-7, 3-3 USA South) allowed four goals in the first eight minutes and that set the tone as USA South-leading Piedmont (10-4, 6-0 USA South) notched a 14-5 victory in an NCAA Division III men's lacrosse game on Wednesday, April 19.

The Lions, and specifically Brady McGuire, would waste no time as they scored four straight goals over the first 8:04 – with three of those off the stick of McGuire.

Freshman attackman Luke Young (Acworth, Ga.) then broke that skein with his 37th goal of the year at the 5:33 mark only to see Jadon Morini get it back with 52 seconds on the clock. PU would then  add to that 5-1 lead in the second with two of the three goals in that frame to take a 7-2 lead to the break.

Out of the half Will Isley and Jason Hasbrouck delivered back-to-back goals to stretch to a six-goal margin before senior midfielder Klein Woods (Macon, Ga.) and sophomore attackmen Ryan Comeau (Canton, Ga.) got those back by the 5:37 mark.

They would get no closer, however, as Piedmont erupted for five straight goals over the next 10:16 to methodically extend the lead to 14-4. From there the Panthers would add just one goal, that by Woods with 3:16 to play, en route to the nine-goal final.

McGuire would deliver four goals to pace the Lions and Morini a pair while not other player had more than one. Of those, Isaac Harrington, Hasbrouck and Michael Anderson added an assist to round out the offense. In net, Johnny Matrona went the distance, allowing just five goals while making seven saves to improve to 10-4 on the year.

The five goals equaled the lowest of the season for LaGrange, matching the five scored at Berry (2/15), and as a result Woods' two goals would lead the way for the Panthers. He would be joined by Luke Young and fellow freshman defenseman Wade Young (Acworth, Ga.) with solo goals and Comeau had a goal and an assist.

Senior FOGO Jacob Jeffords (Marietta, Ga.) manned the center "X", winning 13-of-21 faceoffs with a game-high seven groundballs and senior goalkeeper Isaac Bohrer (Fayetteville, Ga.) played 45 minutes in goal, allowing 11 goals against 17 saves to fall to 5-7.

UP NEXT

It gets no easier as LaGrange returns to action this weekend as they travel to one of the best in the USA South in Pfeiffer. Opening faceoff against the Falcons is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 in Misenheimer, N.C.

NOTES

Prior to the game the Panthers recognized four current seniors in Bohrer, goalkeeper Joshua Hargrove (Norcross, Ga.), Jeffords and midfielder Jack Bryan (Carrollton, Ga).
