Men's Lacrosse: Panthers top Oglethorpe 13-9 to pick up first 2022 win

Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. - LaGrange topped Oglethorpe 13-9 on Saturday afternoon to pick up its first win of the 2022 season. It was the Panthers' first win since defeating Johnson and Wales 23-2 on March 5, 2020.

"It feels good to put one in the win column," Coach Brendan Sewell said. "We had a good week of practice and really executed the game plan well. Offensively we had several freshmen step up and make big plays, and defensively Isaac Bohrer continues to make big saves for us when we really need them. We still have a lot to clean up, but I'm proud of our effort and toughness today."

Seven different Panthers scored in the game, with five of them being freshmen. Freshman Aidan Story led the way with four goals and an assist. Fellow classmates Ryan Comeau (3 goals), Peyton Gale (2 goals), Sebastian Carazo (1 goal), and Zach Dycus (1 goal) joined Story in the scoring column. Junior Ben Bryan had a goal and three assists, while Selassie Richardson also had a goal.

Isaac Bohrer had 14 saves in goal for LC. Will Howell won 6-of-9 faceoffs and led the team with six ground balls. Michael Poteete had two assists, four ground balls, and forced three turnovers.

Comeau opened the scoring off an assist from Bryan. Richardson followed with his goal two minutes later as the Panthers led 2-0 after one period.

Oglethorpe opened the second period with three unanswered goals for a 3-2 lead. The Panthers answered with three straight goals, two in the final 35 seconds, to lead 5-3 at halftime. Peyton Gale had two of the goals sandwiched around Dycus' goal.

In the third period, Comeau scored back-to-back goals and a goal by Story opened an 8-4 lead. Carazo scored with a man advantage and Story's goal with six seconds left in the period made it 10-6

LC got goals from Bryan and Story to open the final period for a 12-6 lead. Oglethorpe came back with three straight goals to cut the Panthers' lead to 12-9. Story's final goal ended the scoring with 59 seconds remaining for the 13-9 final.

The Panthers host Hendrix on Friday, March 4.
