Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-Southern handed LaGrarnge its first loss of the season, with an 85-68 win over the Panthers at the Black Tie Classic on Sunday.
For the second straight day, Braxton Ford was high scorer for the Panthers (1-1). Ford had 18 points, finishing with 43 for the tournament. Nick Mitchell had 17 points and Mark Wagner 14 to follow Ford.
The Panthers got off to a strong start, scoring the game's first seven points and led 10-2 after Mitchell's 3-pointer four minutes in.
The host Panthers came back to take a 29-27 lead with seven minutes left in the half. Wagner's two free throws sent the two teams tied at 41 into halftime.
Mitchell's three-point play early in the second half gave the Panthers their last lead, 49-46.
Mike White made 1-of-2 free throws to get the Panthers within five, 67-62, with eight minutes left. Birmingham-Southern outscored the Panthers 18-6 the rest of the way for the 85-68 final.
The Panthers host Berry in a non-conference matchup Wednesday in Mariotti Gym.
